Pain is like white noise.
It’s always there, and you can always tune into it, but most of the time it fades into this weird background static that you can kind of ignore.
And then there are the bad days.
Instead of a pain volume of 3 or 4 that you can tune out, some asshole has turned the volume up to 7 or 8.
The things on your to do list are too difficult to deal with. So are the people.
The world is too hard and sharp.
All you want to do is crawl under a rock and seal yourself off from the world outside. Unfortunately, that is rarely an option.
So, what can you do instead?
It depends on where you are (obviously), but here are some things you can do to help turn the volume back down.
- Check in with yourself.
Can you postpone some of your responsibilities? Are you tired? Do you need to eat? Can you take anything for pain relief right now? Would an ice pack or a heating pad ease your pain?
- Take a break and breathe.
Even if you can only spare a minute or two. Anything to help you de-stress, since stress only makes pain worse.
- Talk to a friend.
Vent. Commiserate. Ask for help.
Other things you can do:
- Take a nap.
- Take a bath.
- Ask for a hug.
- Pet your fur babies.
- Listen to relaxing music, a favorite podcast, etc.
- Remember that this is temporary. You will feel better.
Seriously. That last one is super important, especially when your pain is worse than normal.
I hope that these ideas help you find some relief.
Also, I’m sorry you are feeling bad. I know it sucks. *hugs*
